Some HVAC System Cleaning Tips

Have you noticed that your house is extra dusty lately? Finding yourself with a constant stuffy nose? Well, when was the last time you checked your HVAC system? If you are asking yourself if you even have one of those, then you might want to pay attention.

Your HVAC needs maintenance every so often to run smoothly and keep your house cool in the summer and warm in the winter. To help get the most life out of your system and not have to drop thousands of dollars on replacing certain parts, let’s go over some cleaning things to do every once in a while.

Check for Dust

So simple, yet so effective. Go look at your thermostat and see if it’s covered in dust. Go over your vents as well. The littlest bit of dust or gunk covering them could have an effect on how they work. We know dusting isn’t the most fun job, but it’s pretty cheap compared to replacing your whole system, so do it.

Filters

This is another super-easy thing to do to keep your system running smoothly. Check your filters. You should be changing them every 3 months. If you have pets, or a lot of kids, maybe change them every 1-2 months.

This is also really important if you have allergies. You won’t be doing yourself any favors by going longer in between filter changes if you have problems anyway.

Dig Deeper in the Vents

Not only should you check the vents, but try taking the vents off. You need to look for anything that could be blocking air flow. Put some gloves on and get down in there. You should actually clean the vents every so often too. Just soap and water will do the trick.

Don’t Wait to Test Out Equipment

Please don’t wait until it’s 90 degrees and everyone is melting to try turning on your air to find out it doesn’t work. Or until it’s going to be 20 degrees with a snow storm on the way and your pipes are going to freeze because your heat won’t kick on.

Check the weather at season changes and make sure things work before you need them. That way you have time to do all of the other stuff first before you need to see if you need to call a professional.

See? That wasn’t so bad. Those are some pretty easy, simple, and cheap (or free) things to do to keep your HVAC system clean and ready for use. Don’t say we never did anything nice for you.
